Hi all, At some point in the near future I'll be investing in a new laptop, and I am considering changing to a Mac. I'm curious to know how a 13' Mac Pro would perform running WoW Legion?
I've heard people say that Macs aren't good gaming computers, and I've been advised against purchasing one if I intend to play WoW. I am a very casual player and don't require a laptop for high definition graphics. I'm wondering whether this is advisable, and also what kind of FPS this would produce with around 8GB RAM?? Note that WoW is the only PC game I would download on this computer, and I primarily need it for word files, and not much other data-consuming programmes.
I'm also ONLY considering the 13' - no bigger! Have a look on the US Mac Technical Support forum, lots of useful info there. In particular Blizzard has posted their default graphics setting for Legion here: Macbook is below minimum spec Macbook Air & 13' Macbook Pro run quality setting 3 15' Macbook Pro runs at setting 4 or 5 with the R9 m370x option The system requirements for the graphics won't increase until the next expansion, but the storage demands will with new content patches, so consider the 256GB hard drive as a minimum, Legion has grown quite large!
Just to repeat the point, new Macbook Pros are coming out soon (probably in September) I'd hate it if you spent your hard earned cash now on last years model and regretted it a couple of weeks later. 08:25Posted by Have a look on the US Mac Technical Support forum, lots of useful info there. I am planning to buy an iMAC with Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200. Blizzard post says it will run the game at quality 4, which seems quite on the low range.
Do you know what quality 4 is like? 15:02Posted by Coming from a Mac, I am clueless why you would want to waste so much money on outdated hardware. The game will never run as smooth as on windows regardless of the specs.
Wait longer than next september though. Because at the beginning of next year they will also be implementing the new line of graphics cards that are being released by Nvidea and AMD. If you're going to overspend, it's smart to overspend on current hardware. The current processor line-up they offer is horrible though. Hmmm, problem is my VAIO is on its last legs. It looks like the new Macs are launching at some point in the current months - do you think it's possible to update the graphics card after they launch?

I don't think my laptop is going to be able to outlive Legion! I used to play WoW on a 15' Macbook Pro and I currently play it on an iMac. Playing WoW on my Macbook Pro literally destroyed the fan's (this was after a few months of playing the game non-stop).

The laptop still works fine, however I can't play WoW, watch Youtube, films or use software such as Adobe without the fans making a huge amount of noise. They were completely fine before playing the game on it and when playing the game the laptop was on a flat cold surface to help the laptop from overheating. (It got very hot when playing WoW).
(This doesn't particularly bother me, as I now only use it when travelling and have had it for years, however if noise bothers you I wouldn't advise it). My iMac seems to be completely unaffected:).
