I have a PowerPivot workbook that I created in Excel 2010. In this workbook, PowerPivot accesses an xls file with a simple table. The xls file is stored in the same SharePoint library as the PowerPivot workbook. Since I originally set this up and had it running, I got a new PC and Excel 2016. Now, I can open the PowerPivot file without a problem. However, I get an error when I try to use PowerPivot Manage to get to the xls data file in the SharePoint library.
The error I get, when I click on Manage is: This workbook has a PowerPivot data model created in using a previous version of the PowerPivot add-in. You'll need to upgrade this data model using PowerPivot for Microsoft Excel 2016. I also tried starting a new workbook using PowerPivot to access the same xls data file. When I try to connect to the file using Get External Data From Other Sources Excel File and use the network path to access the xls file in the SharePoint library, I get another error: Unable to get provider information.
